Perfect weekend to perform some heat training!

Between training and racing, each of us tries to have complete control over almost every aspect of our build up, event day and post race performance.  However, one thing we have absolutely no control over is the weather and the conditions that will be present on race day.  Since we are in the full swing of summer and another scorching heat wave is on the way, now is a perfect time to brush up on what heat does to our bodies and how to best mitigate the impact on our race performance. So, we hear it all the time or a least we say it to ourselves on occasion; How can I improve my run time for my next triathlon?

Well a new training technique / solution has been developed to give you that extra incentive to pick up the pace, improve your cardiovascular fitness and make you really enjoy those leisurely runs you take on your off training days.

This new system is guaranteed to drastically increase your run performance or else!!!!  (the else being you get torn to pieces by flesh eating zombies..  take your pick)

Still looking for CJTC volunteers for Ironman NYC

Dear CJTC members,

We are still looking for volunteers to help out at the Run Aid station between 10am and 4pm at the Ironman U.S. Championship New York City on August 11th.  Come help out at an amazing event that only happens once a year.  Who knows, maybe you’ll be the person to hand off a drink to one of the amazing top triathletes who will win the event.

Swim safety is just as important as road safety

As triathletes, we spend a lot of time in the water training and
racing. At the Patriot Half last weekend a friend of CJTC saved a “silent
drowning victim”. This article explains how “Drowning doesn’t look like
drowning” and what to do if you come upon an unresponsive swimmer. Take a
minute to read the article and educate yourself about what drowning really looks
like.

Westfield Running Company – Group Pacing Run

What:  Westfield Running Company – Group Pacing Run
When:  8:30am to 9:30am
Where: 123 Quimby Stree,t Westfield, NJ 07090

You will have the option to run or walk a 3-6 mile route.  There will be pacers for the run.  They will lead the pace group out for 3 miles and back to the store where you can drop off or continue on for another 3 miles.  Pacer will be 6-7 minutes, 7-8 minute, 8-9 minute, 9-10 minute and walkers.

When you return from the run, Westfield Running Company will be providing breakfast for the group.

CJTC Bike and Brew!! – CANCELED

Sorry folks, but the Bike and Brew event is canceled for this evening.

Due to the heat, humidity and increasing percentage of storms between 3-6pm, we are cancelling the Bike and Brew for this evening.  We will give this a try again on July 27th.  Hope you can join us then!!

Stay hydrated for another racing weekend

Summer has officially rolled in with a series of hot scorching days of humidity and high temperatures.  What better way to celebrate the arrival of summer than to do a Triathlon, Duathlon, Aquabike or just head to the beach for a great weekend on the coast.

Whatever you decide to do, please drink plenty of fluids, wear your sun protection and take plenty of breaks along the way (well, scratch the breaks if you are racing.. of course).

Here are some tips from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to combat the heat on these hot summer days.

On the racing front, several races are taking place this weekend.  Most notably the Philadelphia Insurance Sprint and Olympic Triathlons.  If you get a chance head down that way and enjoy the great festive environment and sports expo taking place over the weekend.  The Sprint takes place on Saturday and the Olympic on Sunday so head on down for a fun racing weekend.

Race updates for 6/16 & 6/17

Congratulations to the CJTC hard chargers who participated with ReserveAid in the Patriot Half and those in other races this past weekend.  Quite notably John put his transition skills to work and was ranked 24th out of a field of 595 for his T1 transition time of 1 minute and 28 second and coming in 97th overall.  Fantastic!!  Not far behind was Geoff with placing 23rd of 67 in his division and 150th overall.  Great effort guys!

Not to be out done, the woman put up a strong showing with Jen ranking 11th of 32 in her division. Awesome!!  Jess coming in not far behind ranking 18th of 32 in her division and  Tovah putting in a very strong effort and finishing her very first 70.3; Way to GO!

Then in the Patriot Aqua Bike, we have CJTC President Thea who rocked it finishing 5th out of 22 in her division and ranking 12th overall in a field of 42.

Finally, taking it easy this weekend unlike the Patriot Half crew  at the Long Branch Long Sprint Series, Darren also showed off his swim to bike transitions skills with a T1 time of 1 minute 10 seconds ranking 11th of 101 and then finishing 42nd overall.

What a way to put the CJTC name out there everyone!
