The Countdown has Begun!

Greetings CJTC Members,

The countdown has begun and it is nearly five more days until our largest CJTC event of the year. You have all been swimming smooth, pedaling fast and running hard to get yourselves in shape for the event. Now is the time to dial it back just a bit and rest up for a long weekend of racing and cheering on your fellow club members.

Don’t forget to go to our Yahoo Group and volunteer to contribute an item or two for the weekends events. It should be a fun and exciting weekend for everyone involved. We plan on having our club tent setup in the same location as last year with snacks, a grill for burgers and hot dogs and various drinks for those attending.

Come on down and join us if you are racing, cheering on your friends or just there to lend a hand.

Group Bike for Saturday 4/28

High Gear Cyclery in Stirling is still our founding Bike sponsor and providing rides for CJTC. For a complete list of rides go to

The Co-Ed Intermediate Ride will be leaving on Saturdays at 7am for a 15 mile ride starting April 28th.  The pace for these rides is referred to as a talking “B” ride.  They usually average about 16 miles per hour pace.  This means at times they may be riding as fast as 20-22miles per hour and going up hills they may slow down to 12 mpr or slower.  This ride also has some faster riders who maintain 18-20 mpr join the ride. So if you want to ride with some faster riders, you may also join this ride.  These riders are fast enough for the “A” ride but prefer to keep it social.  To attend these rides, you should have a road bike, know your average pace, have ridden in a group before and know how to change a flat tire and put your chain back on if it drops.  You will need to have all the tools necessary to make a tire change if it should go flat.    Mike is the ride leader for this ride.  Thea will be the sweep (or the last person to come in) for these rides when she is available.   These rides run every Saturday weather permitting.  They do not ride in rain or if the temps are below 40 degrees. Once the temps drop below 40 degrees bring your trainers in ride inside.  High Gear will be hosting indoor trainer rides instead of outdoor rides.

Cancelled – Group Run for Saturday Feb 5

Even though Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow, Mother Nature is still playing with us.

Due to the pending weather for tomorrow, Saturday February 5th, the group run from Tamaques has been cancelled.

Check the twitter page for Watchung Wheelman to make sure the High Gear indoor cycle is not cancelled for tomorrow morning before you head out. So long as the roads are… not bad, they should still be having it.

Group Run for Saturday Jan 22 – Cancelled

Due to the expected extreme cold tempatures on Saturday morning, this week’s group run from Tamaques Park on Saturday at 9am is cancelled.

Wednesday at 7:00-8:30pm.  Arrive at 7:00 to set-up; be ready to ride at 7:15pm. You will need to have a trainer, bike and mat to participate. Please note, you are responsible for cleaning the floor around your area at the end.

Swim Clinic: January 30, 2011

Swimming an Efficient Freestyle with Total Immersion

Learn what makes for an efficient freestyle. Learn about how relaxation, balance, streamlining and propulsion all help to make you faster. Find out some of the things you may be doing when you are swimming that can slow you down and how to correct them.

** Stroke Analysis: 5-6pm there will be stroke analysis in the pool.
To participate in this part of the clinic, please RSVP to Thea by January 25th. There will only be 10 spots available for this part of clinic. Each person will have 5-10 minutes to have their stroke looked at and given a sheet of drills to work on to help make you faster.
